To be certain that your salmon is cooked through, use a food thermometer to check that the internal temperature reads at least 145 ☏. How to tell when salmon is cooked through So, if you have a 1-pound piece of salmon, you should microwave it for about 6-7 minutes. As a general rule, you should microwave salmon for about 3-4 minutes per half-pound of fish. The amount of time it takes to cook salmon in the microwave will depend on the size and thickness of the fish, as well as the wattage of your microwave.
